Our [Design] Process

Let us begin by saying that this is a short list. Every design company will give you a short list, because none of us want to burden you with too many specifics. We have plenty of time to get to that. But we can tell you that it is not always this easy. That is why we say we strive to deliver ‘quality’ websites instead of saying we will deliver ‘quick’ websites. Haste makes waste.

  1. Meet with client to determine needs. This is our initial meeting(s) to find out what you need. Things that need to be taken into consideration include (but are not limited to) photos, logo graphics, forms, calendars, redirects (especially for blog re-designs) and so-on and so-forth.
  2. Determine a primary budget. See “Our Price.” It is important that we know how much all this is worth to you so we can tell you what we can do with the website.
  3. If necessary, a proposal is written.
  4. Begin ‘comps’ (sketches of web site, not functional.) We start our comps using wireframe sketches and pay close attention to the most important informational bits. From this info, we start to ‘chunk’ our pieces together.
  5. Drafting ‘comps’ (usually a series of two drafts.) This entails a back-and-forth process between our client and us. We say this should take only two tries for expedience, but sometimes it takes a lot of patience. Especially if there is a board of people calling the shots.
  6. Begin programming and debugging across current browsers. We use a local development system (on our computers in the office) to start this part. When we are decently satisfied, we move the site to a remote host and test it remotely until the site passes on all current browsers including Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, Opera, etc.
  7. Go over functionality with client. This is where we finally get down to the nitty gritty. You get to learn how to manage your own information, on your machine, on your time.
  8. Begin the transfer of site to client server. This is where the site will live and play. It has some specific needs so we will go over the geek talk with you when this time comes. We will transfer everything that needs to go up to make the site live.
  9. Second debugging. It usually takes a couple weeks for all bugs to be ironed out. Things like typos, database errors, dead links will be repaired.
  10. Celebrate!
